Hearts Of Iron 3

This game has been out for a few years and about a year ago when i was on the hunt to get into complex strategy games I naturally came across Hearts Of Iron 3. It is a Grand Strategy Game and most people visiting this blog will know all about it. In every review i read the first few sentences will mention its steep learning curve and that it is not for the faint hearted. Well about a year ago i found out i was one of the faint hearted.I loaded it up, tried the tutorial and i remember feeling overwhelmed bu it. It was just too much for me. Anyway i still find myself looking for a complex strategy game and a lot of satisfaction came from Command Ops Battle For The Bulge. The thing is and i know this sounds ridiculous i simply know i don’t have the time to sit down for many hours and just learn this stuff. However i want to do it and it always nags at me when I’m at work etc.

Well i found some spare hours and decided to really have a go at learning Hearts Of Iron 3 and now I’m getting it after watching some fantastic tutorials on YouTube. I have just spent the last 2 years (in-game) building up a massive force to drive through western europe to get a grip of northern France. Once there im going to build up a huge airborne force with the intent of attacking Great Britain.

I have this, and always think it looks so cool. I’m really drawn in by the war planning part of it. I’ve never so much as started it up, however. Looking forward to more posts from you on the game, hoping they’ll help me get past the hump that always seems to stall me out!

I thought this game was the pinnacle of historical accuracy, but there are some glaring issues with it. I have only been in it a few times, but playing the standalone scenario Battle of the Bulge, in the Luxembourg region is a stack of units led by Lieutenant General Alexander Vandegrift, heading up XII Corps.

He was Commandant of the Marine Corps and never served in Europe during WWII.

I know the feeling exactly, and with this game. I picked up HOI3 on a Steam sale and was also smacked in the face by the vast scope of it. Unlike you however I have yet to make the time to learn the game properly, which is a shame. I look forward to any AAR’s you can post from the battles.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
